It is the world’s oldest national broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees. It employs over 20,000 people and has operations in more than 200 countries worldwide. It was established on 18 October 1922 as a public service corporation under Royal Charter from King George V to provide “informational, educational and entertaining programmes for all classes of people”. The BBC operates primarily within the UK but also offers international services including television channels such as BBC World News and radio stations across multiple languages. The BBC produces content across various genres including news & current affairs, drama & comedy series’, documentaries, children’s programming, music performances/concerts etc., with some shows being simulcast live or made available through catch-up services like iPlayer Radio or TV on demand platforms such as My5. Its flagship channel is BBC One which broadcasts 24 hours per day seven days a week providing entertainment options for viewers throughout Britain – this includes popular soap operas Coronation Street & Eastenders along with factual programming like Panorama & Watchdog among others.
