Asia by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 70 Asia is the world’s largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It covers an area of 44,579,000 square kilometers (17,212,000 sq mi), stretching from Africa to Europe to Oceania. The continent is home to some 4.5 billion people across its 48 countries – more than 60% of the world’s population – making it both the most populated region on Earth as well as one of its most diverse Geographically speaking Asia encompasses a wide range of landforms including mountain ranges such as Himalaya-Karakoram-Hindukush Range; continental shelves like Sunda Shelf; large rivers such as Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna River Basin; deserts like Taklamakan Desert; plateaus such as Tibetan Plateau and numerous islands along South China Sea coast line among many others Politically there are two distinct regions within Asia: East Asia which consists mainly of Chinese culture based societies while West Asian nations are mainly influenced by Islamic cultures with variations depending upon country or subregion. Central Asian nations have been historically under Russian/Soviet influence having shared cultural similarities with Eastern European countries due to their geographical proximity Economically speaking much progress has been made over past few decades in terms major East Asian economies like Japan , Korea , Taiwan etc., who now form economic powerhouses whereas other parts remain largely undeveloped . Large emerging markets like India & China however have created huge opportunities for investors around globe leading them towards increased growth rates Culturally too there immense diversity ranging from traditional lifestyles found throughout rural areas especially those living near borders between different countries up to urban cities where modern way life dominates activities . Religion also plays important role ranging from Hinduism/ Buddhism through Islam Christianity etc… all co existing peacefully together for centuries thus creating rich tapestry customs beliefs that define each country unique identity
