Asia Pacific by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 71 Asia Pacific (abbreviated APAC) is a geographic region encompassing the countries and territories in the eastern hemisphere of Asia, extending from Japan to Australia. It is one of the largest regions on Earth, accounting for over half of its land area and population. The area includes diverse cultures, languages, ethnicities, religions and political systems across a wide range of economic development levels. The term “Asia-Pacific” was first used during World War II by American strategists to designate an operational theater that stretched from India’s western border with Pakistan all the way into Southeast Asia and Oceania. As time passed it came to be accepted as referring primarily to East Asian nations such as China, Japan Korea Taiwan Thailand Singapore Malaysia Indonesia Philippines Vietnam Laos Cambodia Myanmar Brunei Timor-Leste Papua New Guinea Samoa Fiji Tonga Kiribati Marshall Islands Nauru Tuvalu Palau Micronesia Solomon Islands Vanuatu Australia New Zealand while South Asian nations like Bangladesh Sri Lanka Nepal Bhutan Maldives Afghanistan were also included because they are geographically situated within this region. Today regional organizations such as ASEAN + 3 , East Asia Summit , Asia Europe Meeting , Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement among many others have been established in order bring together leaders from these various countries so they can work towards common goals including economic growth social stability environmental protection etc . Additionally there has been much investment made in infrastructure projects throughout this part world which has helped spur development particularly within developing nations . Moreover due its large size diversity – both culturally socially – APAC often referred place global affairs whether it’s trade finance or diplomacy amongst other things . This makes it very important geopolitical entity 21st century international relations politics economics culture religion science technology education healthcare communication media entertainment sports business tourism recreation travel lifestyle fashion art music literature cuisine architecture etc .
