Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 52 The Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball team represents the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The program has had a long and proud tradition since its inception in 1923 with competitive teams from the very beginning. Throughout their history, they have won one National Championship (1994) and seven SEC Championships (1978-79, 1985-86, 1989-90, 1993–94). They also appeared in four Final Fours during this time period as well (1981 – lost to North Carolina; 1990 – lost to Duke; 1994 – beat Duke for title; 1995 -lost to UCLA). Under head coach Nolan Richardson from 1985 through 2002 the Razorbacks were known as “Forty Minutes of Hell” due to their aggressive style of play that included full court pressure defense and an up tempo offense that pushed tempo at every opportunity. Despite all this success on the court there was much turmoil off it including allegations brought against Coach Richardson by school officials concerning race related issues which eventually led him being fired after 17 years at helm despite leading them back into national prominence twice over his tenure. Following his departure many thought it would take a while before they could return back those heights but instead new head coach Stan Heath managed do so quickly taking them both Sweet Sixteen appearances within three years along with two consecutive NCAA tournament berths afterwards though he ultimately failed reach any further than that before leaving himself shortly thereafter paving way current head Mike Anderson who is currently entering 8th season charge having most recently taken them 3rd round 2018 NCAA Tournament where defeated Purdue 70–77 ending year 26 wins overall without making conference championship game even once thus far under his leadership however still found ways make postseason tournaments each year either NIT or Big Dance each excepting 2016 when missed out entirely following 13 win season. Overall Arkansas has seen some great highlights throughout its existence ranging anywhere iconic moments like Corliss Williamson buzzer beater Michigan 1984 upset eventual champion Georgetown NBA All Stars Sidney Moncrief Ronnie Brewer Joe Johnson former President Bill Clinton donning red white cheering sidelines 94 title run recent clutch performances Dusty Hannahs days gone past future surely bright upcoming class hungry talent eager write own piece Razorback Basketball lore!
