Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 73 Andrés Manuel López Obrador (nicknamed AMLO) is the current President of Mexico, who was elected in 2018. He previously served as Mayor of Mexico City from 2000 to 2005 and Head of Government for the Federal District from 1997 to 1999. His term began on December 1, 2018 and he has been seeking to focus his efforts on reducing corruption and restoring economic growth in Mexico. Early life and career López Obrador was born into a middle-class family in Tepetitán, Tabasco state, located near Villahermosa city on November 13th 1953 . After completing college studies at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), where he studied Political Science with an emphasis in economics; In 1976 López Obrador entered public service working for then Governor Roberto Madrazo Pintado’s Social Welfare Department under Secretary Carlos Jongitud Barrios until 1979 when he became involved directly with politics by joining the Institutional Revolutionary Party or PRI which governed Mexican politics since 1929 via single party rule until 2000 when Lopez Obrador joined other parties such as Partido de la Revolucion Democrática or PRD , Movimiento Regeneración Nacional – MORENA -and later Encuentro Solidario con el Desarrollo Mexicano o ESDE Political Career In 1988 Andres Manuel Lopez obrador ran unsuccessfully against Carlos Salinas De Gortari for president representing The Democratic Revolution Party however it wasn’t untill more than 10 years after that wining governor election would happen again this time running successfully for mayor office becoming head of government between 1997-1999 followed by another successful run obtaining mayor’s seat from 2000-2005 before finally winning presidential elections held July 1st 2018 taking office officially December 1st same year transforming himself into 60th presidente constitutional de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos making him first left winged candidate ever achieving presidency since mexican revolution 1910–1920 During his campaign AMLO promised tackling corruption within political system while calling out impunity towards criminals alongside stimulating economy through diverse social programs like scholarship grants among others As part of these promises several reforms have already been implemented namely increasing wages minimum wage , providing free internet access across Schools nationwide additionally implementing monetary stimulus package amid Covid 19 pandemic lockdown measures all aimed towards improving people quality living standard throughout country Conclusion Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador currently stands amidst high expectations both internally & externally ; carrying hopes around nation restoration following decades long corrupt practices leaving millions behind economically speaking though many are still skeptical about how much change can be achieved during only one 6 year tenure Despite it being relatively early days its certain that whatever outcome will come up next will shape not just present but future generations either way
