Amarillo by Joshua Brown May 1, 2023 74 Amarillo is the 14th most populous city in the state of Texas, United States. It is located in Potter and Randall Counties at the intersection of Interstate 40 (I-40) and U.S. Highway 287/87 on what was once part of an ancient lakebed known as Lake Amariyo or “The Yellow Water.” The name Amarillo derives from Spanish for yellow, referring to its famous bright yellow wildflowers which grew along its creeks and lakes during springtime each year. Amarillo has a strong economy that relies heavily on agriculture, petroleum production, distribution centers including those owned by Walmart Corporation, Tyson Foods Inc., Xcel Energy Inc., Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., BNSF Railway Co., Pantex Corp (nuclear weapons assembly plant), Danone Waters Of America Ltd Partnership and many other businesses such as medical care providers have offices there too; major employers include Walgreens Distribution Center, JBS Swift & Company Meatpacking Plant and ConAgra Packaged Food Manufacturing Facility . The area is also home to several colleges including West Texas A&M University , Amarillo College , South Plains College , Wayland Baptist University – Plainview Campus and Frank Phillips Junior College . With all these institutions combined with a diverse population it provides various educational opportunities for both youth and adults alike. In recent years Amarillo has become increasingly well known for its vibrant arts community featuring music venues like Graham Central Station Live Music Venue , numerous art galleries throughout downtown like Panhandle Art Center Gallery And Museum plus multiple performing arts organizations such as Lone Star Ballet Academy Of Dance Arts Theatre Group and Symphony Orchestra Association doing regular performances throughout town bringing culture to locals while attracting visitors from out of town looking for fun things to do! Additionally this city boasts some amazing attractions like Palo Duro Canyon State Park – one of largest canyons in North America or Cadillac Ranch where tourists take pictures amongst 10 classic Cadillacs buried nose first into ground creating quite memorable experience!
