The Canadian province of British Columbia and territory of Yukon border the state to the east and southeast respectively, its most extreme western part is Attu Island; it has a maritime border with Russia to the west across the Bering Strait. Alaska’s coastline extends for over 6,600 miles (10,686 km), more than double that of all other states combined. It is surrounded by water on three sides: The Chukchi Sea lies to north; Gulf of Alaska and Pacific Ocean lie south; Bering Sea lies southwestward between both mainlands – making Alaska nearly an island as well as one-fifth larger than Texas or almost twice as large as France/Germany combined! The capital city Anchorage houses approximately 40% population while Juneau comprises 57%. Other major cities include Fairbanks in interior region, Sitka near Alexander Archipelago islands groupings & Ketchikan at southernmost tip close proximity Canada’s Vancouver Island area.. Alaskan geography includes vast Arctic tundra lands – extending up into northern portion which holds numerous rivers flowing throughout entire length into respective seas below them – plus equally huge mountain ranges reaching heights exceeding 20 000 meters above sea level such Mount McKinley highest peak USA itself (6 194 m).
