1899 Hoffenheim

1899 Hoffenheim (pronounced “HOFF-in-haim”) is a professional football club based in the city of Sinsheim, Germany. The team currently plays in the Bundesliga, and have been playing there since their promotion to the top tier of German football at the end of 2008–09 season.

The club was founded on July 1 1899 by young students who had come together from different parts of Germany to study agronomy at an agricultural college near Sinsheim. These students wanted a way to pass time between lessons and so they established what would become 1899 Hoffenheim as an amateur side for friendly matches and tournaments with other local teams.

In 1945 after World War II ended, all sporting activities were strictly regulated according to Allied directives but despite this restriction sport clubs soon started up again in almost every part of Germany including Hoffenheim.
