It was proven on Saturday when Georgia carried the Virginia Tech team to their highest point in history! Amoore scored a really high score of 29 points and with this, the Virginia Tech team (Hokies) were able to get into the Elite Eight – something that has never been achieved in their school’s history. On top of this, Amoore expressed his goal to win more in order for more people to recognize them. The Hokies (30-4) won their 14th game in a row and will be playing Ohio State (3rd seed) for the Seattle 3 Regional final on Monday. In the first semifinal, Ohio State defeated UConn, ending their 14-game streak of making it to the Final Four. Amoore and the Hokies played very well near the end of the 2nd quarter which gave them enough points to avoid losing against Tennessee’s strong rally in the 12 minutes of last quarter. Amoore tried to shoot 19 3-pointers in the Hokies’ victory during the second round of the game. But, this time he only managed to shoot 14. Brooks said that the kids have to be extra cautious when they’re out with her because something dangerous could happen. He added that she is amazing and as good as any other kid in the country. Also, she has been performing incredibly well since their recent stretch began. Kayana Traylor scored 14 points and Kitley got 12 points even though they weren’t playing for a big portion of the first half because of too many fouls. This team has only made it to the Sweet 16 one other time before in their history and now with one more win, they could make it to the Final Four. Kitley was so excited to have achieved something they wanted, and it took coach Brooks a while. Jordan Horston scored the most with 17 points by Tennessee’s team against 25-12 opponents. Rickea Jackson and Jordan Walker followed him up with 15 and 12 points respectively. The Lady Vols have been doing pretty well, recently reaching the regional semifinals for two years in a row. However, it’s been four years since their last win in the Elite Eight. During this tournament, they did exceptionally in the first couple of rounds with their offensive play-style but that changed during the game against the Hokies. Walker reported that they were very focused and had a lot of energy going into the match-up, but seemed to not be able to execute their offense as effectively as earlier rounds. The Lady Vols had a really good start in their first-round victory over Saint Louis with 95 points and followed that up with 94 points against Toledo. But they were shooting too many three-pointers and coach Kellie Harper yelled out at them to ask “who are we?” when they attempted their 12th shot from outside of the arc in the first half. Tennessee weren’t as good with the three-pointers during their match against the Hokies, having made only 3 out of 17 attempts compared to 11 out of 22 when they beat Toledo. Harper said that our first attack was good, but we were too eager to keep going and didn’t stay still enough. We were taking too many shots from far away in the first half. At the end of the first half, Virginia Tech had scored 8 points consecutively and were leading 35-22. At the start of the second half, Amoore made her fourth three pointer of the game and Kitley also scored inside which meant that their lead was now 40-22 – much larger than it was before. By the end of the third quarter, Tennessee had cut their deficit to nine points. They kept going in the fourth quarter and Jasmine Powell’s three-pointer put them within one point of having a tie game with 6:05 remaining. However, they made mistakes by turning the ball over too much and received too many fouls, so Virginia Tech increased their lead back up to 11 points on Amoore’s jump shot with 2:10 left. Amoore said, “It was tough but we made it through which is great. We need to be ready for Ohio State trying to press us like they did today.
