Violent Cartel Leaves Trail of Dismembered Body Parts near Mexico City

Authorities suspect the involvement of a violent drug cartel in a gruesome incident near Toluca, a city just west of Mexico City. On Wednesday, a severed human leg was discovered hanging from a pedestrian bridge, signaling a macabre display of brutality. The day unfolded with the emergence of additional body parts scattered throughout the city.

At the bridge, the trunk of the victim’s body was callously abandoned on the street below, near the city center. Handwritten signs bearing the signature of the Familia Michoacana cartel accompanied the gruesome scene. Subsequently, other body parts were found in another neighborhood, accompanied by similar cartel signs. Preliminary information suggests that the victim was a man between the ages of 35 and 40.

Further distressing discoveries followed, as parts of at least one more body were unearthed in different locations within the city. In one of Toluca’s eastern neighborhoods, police uncovered a dismembered body alongside a sign resembling those found in the initial incident. Later, in an industrial area on the north side of the city, authorities stumbled upon body parts inside a burning car. Investigations are underway to determine if these remains are connected to the second dismembered body.

The mayor of Toluca, Raymundo Martínez Carbajal, appealed for calm in the face of this horrifying situation. The Familia Michoacana cartel, which has long dominated rural areas in the State of Mexico, now seems to be extending its influence to the state capital.

“The fight against crime unites us all, and we must stand together,” declared Mayor Carbajal.

This unsettling event follows the display of threatening banners signed by the Familia Michoacana in a suburb of Toluca the previous week. Originally hailing from the neighboring state of Michoacan in the early 2000s, the gang has faced significant resistance in its home state but has found new opportunities for its criminal activities in the State of Mexico and neighboring Guerrero state.
