Reflecting on his growing notoriety, Andre revealed his ingenious approach to maintaining anonymity, stating, “We used to worry about being recognized, but it turns out it doesn’t take much to fool people. This season, I disguised myself frequently, sporting a ponytail, glasses, and even wearing COVID masks at times.” There is a peculiar kind of poetic justice in witnessing this cult show turn the tables on society’s most envied figures, featuring renowned personalities such as Seth Rogen, Demi Lovato, Dennis Rodman, and Judy Greer over the years.

Remarkably, only a few guests, including Lauren Conrad and T.I., have stormed off the set in disgust or indignation. Considering Andre’s knack for subjecting guests to emotional and physical discomfort for over an hour, ultimately condensed into brief interview segments, the low number of walkouts is surprising. Andre’s unconventional approach involves subjecting celebrities to both absurd questioning and physical pranks, some of which remain hidden from viewers and are only revealed later by former guests.

Andre views his show as a departure from the contrived nature of traditional press, asserting, “It’s a break from the fictitious propaganda often seen in traditional late-night talk shows. People can sense the inauthenticity when actors share rehearsed anecdotes from film sets. We offer something different.” One of the most impressive aspects of his pranks is his ability to execute them seamlessly, even when guests become visibly angry and occasionally pose a physical threat.

“When I conduct interviews, I calculate every next step,” Andre explained, highlighting his meticulous approach. “I refrain from laughter. While Andre denies outright lying to secure guests for the show, he acknowledges that he and his bookers often “bend the truth” and concoct elaborate schemes to prevent publicists from discovering the torturous pranks their clients are unwittingly walking into. “We keep publicists away from the stage area and show them fake monitor feeds,” he revealed, adding that they sometimes send them on wild goose chases when suspicions arise.

Andre recounted an incident from the previous season involving actor Robin Givens, whose publicist demanded that the interview be stopped. To buy himself more time, the show’s assistant director supposedly led the publicist on a convoluted path throughout the building. “We went outside, circled back in, pretended not to know where we were,” Andre chuckled.
