Mississippi Jail Escapee Dead After Armed Standoff by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 written by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 73 A man from Mississippi who ran away from a jail is suspected to have killed someone on Monday night. He then built a barricade in a house and started a fire while having a battle with police officers armed with guns. The suspect sadly died at the end of the fight. Smoke was coming out of a house in Conway where police found the body of Dylan Arrington, age 22. He had started a fire in the home after shooting a deputy in the leg, according to Sheriff Randy Atkinson from Leake County. Atkinson said: “Dylan caused a lot of trouble, including escaping jail and hurting people. But he won’t ever hurt anyone again”. The Sheriff of Hinds County, Tyree Jones, announced that the dead body that was found has been identified as Arrington. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is still investigating to find out how he died. Arrington and three others broke out from a prison in Mississippi during the weekend and Arrington is suspected of killing someone and stealing their pickup truck after escaping. The man who owns the house that was set on fire said he saw someone matching Arrington’s look outside a trailer behind his home on Tuesday. He called the police and left with his family. The officers looked around, but didn’t find Arrington anywhere. They kept searching with help from drones and helicopters during the night time. At around 7 in the morning on Wednesday, Atkinson and another police officer arrived at the property with the homeowner. After a short talk, it turned out that Arrington was hiding inside. When Arrington saw them outside, he ran out of the house and started shooting at them through a window, hitting the other police officer in his leg according to Atkinson. Within two hours, a house was burned down, and after firefighters extinguished the fire, they found a body inside. One deputy was injured and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment. Because of this incident, several law enforcement agencies asked the people in the area to keep their doors locked and not leave any weapons or keys in their vehicles. The U.S. Marshals Service and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are helping in the search for the person responsible for a terrible crime. Anthony Watts, who was 61 years old and a pastor at a church nearby, was killed on Monday evening around 7 pm while he stopped to help someone who had crashed their motorcycle on Interstate 55 near Jackson. The man shot Watt several times before stealing his Red Dodge Ram truck and leaving him there. He died from his injuries at the scene. The police think that Arrington was responsible for the shooting incident. On Saturday night, three people broke out of the Raymond Detention Center, located near Jackson. These prisoners are Casey Grayson, Corey Harrison, and Jerry Raynes. The police think they may have slept on the roof before running away in different directions. Police spotted a person named Raynes on surveillance video at a service station in Spring Valley, which is near Houston, on Sunday morning. They believe he stole a vehicle from the Public Works department of Hinds County and drove it to Texas. It’s not sure if he was alone or not. Four people escaped from jail and were wanted for various crimes, mostly having to do with stealing. One of them, Arrington had been accused of taking a car and having an illegal gun. Police noticed a red Dodge Ram with tan trim on the front and back, along with Cowboys stickers, driving south on I-55 in Terry, Mississippi. It was likely stolen by Watts. In addition, detectives think a stolent Chevy Silverado may be connected to the escapees as well. Raynes, Grayson and Harrison are still at large. In July, a Judge said that too few staff members caused people to get hurt or even die in the Raymond jail. He decided someone should take control of the jail starting January 1st. But then an appeals court said they want to think about it before anyone takes over.
