Ukraine Confirms Plans for Counteroffensives as Soon as Ready

Ukraine announced Monday that they are planning to fight back against Russian troops. They are currently working on making sure their military is prepared and it will only be a matter of time before they start the attack.

Oleksiy Danilov, who works in Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said that Ukraine’s allies are giving them heavy armoured vehicles and ammunition to help the government prepare for an attack. However, Oleksiy seemed unhappy because he said that some of their allies made promises but didn’t keep them.

“If we aren’t ready, nobody will be caught by surprise,” Danilov said. He was talking about a big U.S. intelligence leak which other leaders from Ukraine did not think would seriously impact their upcoming plans. They also shared that they don’t tell anyone their important information.

The man said we don’t report to anyone about sensitive security matters. Decisions about these things are made in meetings between the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and he’s the only one who decides how and when Ukraine will get back its territory.

New documents show how close Ukraine is to running out of missiles and that soon, their air defense systems may be completely out of stocks. If this happens, it will leave Ukrainian skies vulnerable to Russian air and artillery strikes that have already caused lots of destruction to people’s cities and infrastructure.

Danilov wouldn’t tell us how many weapons Ukraine has, but he said it will be enough to fight off Russia. He went on to say that Ukrainians are working hard, even during the weekends, to get ready for whatever might come their way – with a heavy price. He believes it is only a matter of time before something happens.

Danilov didn’t say for certain whether the Patriot air defense system promised by the U.S. has come to Ukraine, but it’s very likely that it has. He was asked to comment on statements made by Yuriy Ihnat of the Ukrainian air force – last week he said it could arrive in Ukraine after Easter. Danilov answered: “Well, Easter has passed already.” Then he added with a smile: “The answer to your question is simple: everything is good!”

The war between Russia and Ukraine is currently in a deadlock. An area called Bakhmut has been the site of some of the longest and deadliest fights for 8 and a half months now. The town is located in Donetsk, which was taken over by Russia illegally last year. Moscow has control over only half this province, but if they take over Bakhmut it would give them access to conquer the rest as well.

The Ukrainian officials said that they are trying to slow down the Russian forces in the battle in Bakhmut so that Kyiv can have time to form a counteroffensive. President Zelenskyy believes if Russia wins this battle, then Mr. Putin might be able to get other countries to sign an agreement with Ukraine which would leave Ukraine with no choice but to accept some bad decisions in order to finish the war.

Danilov believes Ukraine cannot be taken over by Russia’s military means and the small town he is in has been made famous. He also believes that Ukraine will regain its occupied territories. He said, “We can beat Russia” and they have an inner strength that always bothers the Russians.
