Authorities reported that a tragic incident occurred at a bank in Louisville, Kentucky. A shooter killed four people and injured nine others Monday. Two of those who lost their lives were reportedly known to the Governor of the state. Unfortunately, the suspect also died in the shooting.

The 15th mass shooting this year happened recently. Before that, two weeks ago, an ex-student killed six people at a school in Nashville, Tennessee. The governor and his wife in that state lost friends in that shooting as well.

Police arrived quickly to Old National Bank in Louisville when shots were going off and exchanged fire with the shooter, according to Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey. It is still unknown whether the shooter was killed by police or died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

A police officer named Humphrey said that it looks like the man who shot at the bank was a former employee. Nine people including two police officers were hurt in this incident. One of them had really serious injuries, and thankfully three people have been released from the hospital already.

The Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, expressed his sadness after learning about a shooting close to Louisville Slugger Field and Waterfront Park. He stated that he lost two friends while another was taken to the hospital and he hoped they will make it through this tragedy. This is also not the first time a large-scale disasters has personally affected him since becoming governor.

In 2021, a town in Kentucky called Dawson Springs was attacked by big storms and tornadoes. Andy Beshear, the Governor of Kentucky, had visited Dawson Springs when he was a child because it was his Dad’s hometown. He talks about this place very emotionally.

When Governor Beshear talked, investigators were looking for answers in Louisville. At the bank entrance, you could see dots and snaps of lots of bullet holes.

Someone who ran away from the building told a TV news station that there was someone in a conference room at the back shooting with a long gun.

The person next to me got shot and their blood was on my shirt,” he said as he pointed out his clothes. He ran away to hide in a break room and closed the door behind him.

Deputy Chief Humphrey said that the police officers saved people by arriving quickly.

He added that it was an awful event but everybody is thankful for the heroic response of officers which made sure no one else got seriously hurt.

This year, there have been 15 mass shootings within the first 100 days of the calendar year. This is more than we saw in 2009 where only 16 had happened by April 10th. All these numbers are gathered by a team of researchers from Big News, USA Today, and Northeastern University.

Starting in 2006, the years with the most mass killings were 2019 and 2022. 45 mass killings happened in 2019 and 42 in 2022. In 2009, there were fewer mass killings at 32 for the whole year. The info was reported by Larry Fenn, a database journalist.
