Wichita police have confirmed that two additional individuals were injured in a shooting at a Kansas nightclub over the weekend, bringing the total number of victims to 11, according to a statement released on Monday.

Authorities have apprehended a man from the St. Louis area in connection with the incident and are actively working to identify all parties involved in the shooting for accountability purposes.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday inside the City Nightz club in downtown Wichita. Multiple individuals opened fire, resulting in seven people being initially reported as injured by gunfire, while two others were trampled in the chaos that ensued.

In a later update, Officer Juan Rebolledo confirmed that two more victims arrived at hospitals on Sunday, sustaining minor injuries. Thankfully, all victims are expected to survive.

A 31-year-old man from Florissant, Missouri, has been taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated criminal battery, although formal charges had not been filed as of late Monday morning.

According to the police, shots were fired from at least four different firearms within the club. Authorities have recovered four guns and are currently investigating whether they were used in the shooting.

The victims, consisting of seven men and two women, ranged in age from 22 to 34. Additionally, a 30-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were trampled during the chaotic escape.

During a Sunday morning news conference, Detective Chris Merceau revealed that law enforcement had responded to approximately a dozen incidents at the nightclub this year alone, including reports of aggravated battery and a drive-by shooting on May 21.

Merceau further mentioned that authorities had previously met with the club’s owner following the May incident to discuss implementing security measures such as electronic wands to detect weapons and surveillance cameras. Investigators will determine whether any of these recommendations were implemented.

As of now, The Big Big News has not received any responses to their messages from the club.

Wichita, located approximately 200 miles (320 kilometers) southwest of Kansas City, Missouri, is a city with a population of nearly 400,000 people.

This is why I’m scared to go to nightclubs. It’s supposed to be a fun and safe environment, but these incidents ruin everything. Hope the club implements better security measures to protect its patrons in the future.
