Tiger Woods Overcomes the Odds to Make Cut at the Masters

It’s hard to believe, but Tiger Woods was last among those still playing at the Masters! After making it through the cut on Saturday, his day got even tougher when rain and cold temperatures took over. The aching five-time champion just couldn’t take it anymore.

At 47 years old, Woods is still recovering from an accident in 2021 which almost took away his right leg. He was clearly in pain while slowly playing seven holes in the morning to get past a cut-off and then seven more when it started raining heavily. When finally at 3:15 the game ended, Tiger Woods was alone and all the way at last place with 9 overs, 22 shots behind leader Brooks Koepka.

Tiger Woods is on track to have one of the worst rounds in his Masters career, with a score of 6 shots over 7 holes so far. If he keeps going like this, it will even be worse than last year when he finished 47th and ended the tournament at 13-over 301.

However, just getting to the Masters as a pro for 23 straight years is a big achievement for Woods – something previously only managed by two others golfers, Gary Player and Fred Couples.

The long break of more than two and a half hours between rounds and the bad weather made Tiger Woods tired. The tournament officials allowed groups of three to start on both the front and back nine so they could get in as much golf as possible.

Woods had a disappointing third round at the Masters. He started out bogeying on hole 10, then again at hole 14, followed by two double-bogeys when he landed his ball in the water on holes 15 and 16. It was also the first time he ever got consecutive double bogeys in this tournament. When they sounded the horn he was still on 17th hole, which meant he still had to finish the front nine.

This wasn’t the typical result from the 15-time major champion golfer we’ve all come to know. Normally, he does well on Saturday’s (called Moving Day) at the Masters–in fact, he’s shot under par or better 22 out of 25 times! But this time was an exception.

Even though it was really cold and raining, he kept on trekking around the course while wearing a gray winter hat over his baseball cap. One time when Woods made a not-so-good shot, he used to show how upset he was, but this was different–he didn’t express any emotion at all. This Sunday won’t be much easier for Woods since he’s said that he has been in “constant pain”.

Woods has never quit during the Masters tournament. However, he still has to play over 28 more holes on the last day and that can be exhausting! Unless it rains, Woods will need to stay focused and motivated if he wants to finish the tournament successfully.
