The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to several notable individuals, including Taylor Swift, Ke Huy Quan, Austin Butler, Keke Palmer, and The Weeknd. This year, the prestigious organization behind the Oscars has invited a total of 398 individuals to join its esteemed ranks.

Among the invitees, there are 22 previous Oscar winners and 76 nominees. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the writer-director-producers of “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” are also among those invited and must choose one of the three branches. Additionally, actors such as Paul Mescal, Stephanie Hsu, and Kerry Condon have received invitations.

Interestingly, a majority of this year’s invitees come from countries outside the United States. This includes Ram Charan and NT Rama Rao Jr. from “RRR,” Zar Amir-Ebrahimi from “Holy Spider,” Dolly De Leon from “Triangle of Sadness,” Sakura Ando from “Shoplifters,” Vicky Kreips from “Phantom Thread,” and Park Hae-il from “Decision to Leave.” The list also includes Hollywood actors like Lashana Lynch, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Hader, Paul Reiser, Selma Blair, and Robert John Davi, known for his role in “The Goonies.”

In the music branch, alongside Taylor Swift, who recently wrote a song for “Where the Crawdads Sing,” notable invitees include Abel Makkonen Tesfaye (known as The Weeknd), David Byrne, M.M. Keeravaani from “RRR,” and Ryan Lott and Ian Chang from Son Lux.

Several directors received invitations for other branches. Dean Fleischer-Camp, the director of “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” was invited to the animation and short film branch, while Charlotte Wells, the director of “Aftersun,” was invited to the writer’s branch. Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro was also among the invitees to the writer’s branch.

The academy has made significant progress in diversifying its membership. If all the invitees accept their invitations, the Academy’s membership will consist of 34% women, 18% individuals from underrepresented ethnic or racial communities, and 20% from non-U.S. countries.
