Some of these remains were connected to dismembered body parts found elsewhere on Long Island, creating a perplexing crime scene stretching from a park near New York City to a resort community on Fire Island and even farther east on Long Island. Shannan Gilbert’s body was eventually found in December 2011, about three miles east of the initial discovery site of the other ten sets of remains.
