Russia-Ukraine warEuropeKyivWorld News Russian Strikes in Ukraine Kill 10 Civilians, Wound 20 More: Unseen Casualties of War by Michael Nguyen March 26, 2023 written by Michael Nguyen March 26, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 54 Friday was a dangerous day in Kyiv, Ukraine. According to officials, Russian bombs that could reach far away caused 10 people to die and left 20 more hurt. On the same day, a Russian official said they were ready to fight back when Ukraine tried to take action this spring. Five people sadly lost their lives in Kostiantynivka, a city in eastern Ukraine. They were at an aid station that was hit by a missile shot by the Russians. Last year, there were hundreds of places in Donetsk province created by the Ukrainian authorities so that war-affected people could have food, charge their phones and keep warm safely. Prosecutors think it was an S-300 anti-aircraft missile used to attack the aid station. The people who died were actually refugees according to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the Governor of Donetsk. The war which began in the winter months is still going on into spring. Russia has been attacking several regions of Ukraine by launching missiles, drones and bombs from the air. Ukraine has also been fighting back by using their Soviet-era helicopters. The United Nations has criticized both sides for torturing and killing prisoners of war. The United Kingdom will be sending some uranium-based ammunition to Ukraine as support. Last night, two people died and nine were hurt during a rocket attack and air strikes in Bilopillia village of Sumy province. In Kherson city of southern Ukraine another person was killed by the Russian shelling while one more person passed away alongside four others getting injured in Bilozerka town. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid a visit to the region on Thursday. Ukrainian soldiers are preparing to use the warmer weather and new tanks they got from the West to attack Russian forces in areas they’re occupying. However, Dmitry Medvedev (ex-President of Russia and now Deputy Head of its Security Council appointed by Vladimir Putin) said that the Russian troops will be ready to defend themselves if attacked. He also added that their military leaders are carefully looking at all possible scenarios. The Russian official warned that if Ukraine tries to take Crimea, which Russia had taken over without permission in 2014, Moscow might use nuclear weapons. He said this could be seen as trying to break up the country, which is a serious offense and means any types of weapons can be used. He hopes that those friends across the ocean understand the seriousness of this situation. Medvedev is known for talking in a very fancy way, but he also made this warning because Russia’s security doctrine talks about using nuclear weapons to protect the country if they are attacked with either nuclear or conventional weapons that would put its existence at risk. Medvedev said that anyone like US experts, who use weapons such as the Patriot air defense missile systems given to Ukraine, could be a target. The Ukrainian soldiers also received training from the United States and Russian officials claim that other people from different countries are in Ukraine. Medvedev posted a video to his messaging app channel and said that if weapons from Patriot or any other nation are brought into Ukraine and foreign people come with them, then these people must be killed. He emphasized that if an American or Polish soldier is spotted there, they too should be destroyed. The Russian government wants to build a “protective wall” that is between 60 and 100 miles long around the parts of Ukraine that it controls. This wall would stop missiles from traveling very far and reaching those areas. It might even try to take part of Ukraine all the way up to Poland! On Friday, a spokesman from the Kremlin spoke positively about Denmark’s plans to invite the people responsible for running the Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines to join them in fixing something that blew up on September near those pipelines. No one has been able to figure out who caused the damage yet. He said we should involve everyone in a transparent and fair investigation. He pointed out that whatever object it is, it’s close to the weakest part of a pipeline on the bottom of the Baltic sea.
