Richard Moll, a renowned character actor who gained widespread recognition for his role as the quirky yet affable bailiff in the original television series “Night Court,” has passed away at the age of 80.

Moll’s death occurred on Thursday at his residence in Big Bear Lake, California, as confirmed by his publicist Jeff Sanderson from Chasen & Company.

On NBC’s “Night Court,” which aired from 1984 to 1992, Moll portrayed the character “Bull” Shannon, sharing the screen with notable actors Harry Anderson and John Larroquette. His character developed a significant rapport with another bailiff in the court, Roz Russell, who was portrayed by Marsha Warfield. Bull Shannon was distinguished by his catchphrase, “Ohh-kay,” and a somewhat naive but endearing perspective on life.

Following the conclusion of “Night Court,” Moll continued to work in the entertainment industry, lending his distinctive, raspy voice to a range of video games and comic book adaptations. Notably, he provided the voice for Harvey Dent in “Batman: The Animated Series” and took roles in horror films such as “Ghost Shark” (2013) and “Slay Belles” (2018).

Moll’s voice acting repertoire also includes the character Scorpion in the animated series “Spider-Man” from the 1990s, and he had minor roles in films like “The Flintstones” (1994), “Jingle All the Way” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and “Scary Movie 2.”

Standing at 6 feet 8 inches, the imposing actor chose not to participate in the reboot of “Night Court” that featured John Larroquette. In the concluding episode of the original series, Moll’s character was humorously taken by extraterrestrials who required a tall individual to access items on their topmost shelves.

He leaves behind his children, Chloe and Mason Moll; his former wife, Susan Moll; and stepchildren Cassandra Card and Morgan Ostling.
