Baltimore RavensFootballLamar JacksonNFLSports Ravens Make History by Signing 5-Year, $260M Contract with Lamar Jackson by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 written by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 74 On Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson made a deal. It was a five-year contract worth $260 million. From that money, Lamar will get $185 million guaranteed! We learned this from a reliable person who wanted to stay anonymous. The deal is keeping the 2019 NFL MVP, who plays with the Baltimore team, around for a while. The contract negotiation that has been taking up the team’s time throughout this break is now done. Jackson’s deal gives him more money than what Jalen Hurts had gotten from the Philadelphia Eagles – Hurts got $179.3 million worth of guarantees, and Jackson tops that with $255 million over five years. Deshaun Watson is now holding the record of having the biggest deal that’s been arranged in theNFL. The Cleveland Browns gave him a five-year contract worth $230 million dollars last year so he could join their team. Just before the NFL draft, the Ravens made an announcement about it and this new caused more excitement than whoever they might pick for the first round. The Ravens weren’t sure what to do with Jackson after his rookie contract expired. They gave him the franchise tag, but still wanted to work out a longer deal with him even though he asked for a trade. We don’t know the details of this new contract yet, but there was a video of Jackson talking about it. Jackson said, “For the last few months, everyone has been arguing and feeling anxious, but for the next five years, I can’t wait to be a ‘Ravens Flock’, which is what the team’s fans call themselves. Let’s go and get it done! I’m excited to cheer our team on at M&T Bank Stadium for the next five years!” Jackson signed a deal with the Ravens, meaning that he’ll be on the lineup for their first game of the season and won’t miss any training camp. Plus, they added Odell Beckham Jr. to their wide receiving group, and hired Todd Monken from Georgia as offensive coordinator! Jackson was drafted in 2018 and he is now one of the six quarterbacks in NFL history with over 10,000 yards passing and 4,000 yards rushing. He has been hurt at the end of the past two seasons but he is only 26 years old so he still has lots of time to shine. Plus, his future looks very bright because he will stay with the Baltimore team. Jackson was negotiating with a team, and if he played this season, he could make $32.4 million. However, that path had risks – if Jackson got injured, he would lose lots of money, and even when healthy, the team wouldn’t be happy. But in March, Jackson said that before that he had asked to be traded from his team. Jackson and the Ravens seem really happy with each other now, whether it was because of feeling angry about how things were going before or in order to get other teams more interested. It’s pretty cool that Lamar Jackson’s new contract was revealed on Draft Day. Five years ago, he wasn’t one of the mostly chosen players but Baltimore got him with the 32nd pick as the fifth quarterback to be picked during the selection process. Only Josh Allen from Buffalo achieved results that are similar to what Jackson has done since then and two offseasons ago he got a long-term deal with the Bills.
