Baltimore RavensFootballLamar JacksonNFLSports Ravens and Jackson Agree to Groundbreaking $260 Million Deal by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 written by Joshua Brown April 27, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 74 On Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens and their star quarterback Lamar Jackson agreed in principle on a five-year agreement that made him the highest paid NFL player ever. As part of this agreement, Jackson will receive $260 million over five years with $185 million guaranteed, according to a person who was familiar with the terms but preferred not to be identified. The deal keeps the 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Baltimore for a long time, and it has ended all the disagreements between the team and him. Jackson’s contract is worth even more than the $255 million, five-year deal that Philadelphia Eagles gave to Jalen Hurts earlier this month. Hurts received $179.3 million in guarantees from his contract. The Cleveland Browns recently made an amazing deal with the well-known Deshaun Watson: a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract! This agreement gave Watson a no-trade clause, and they announced it on the same day as the NFL draft. Everyone in Baltimore was super excited about this news – even more so than the first pick of the draft! Jackson’s contract with the Ravens was coming up and may not have been renewed. However, Baltimore used its “Franchise Tag” to keep him on their roster. The Ravens tried to work out a long-term agreement with Jackson before he even said he wanted to move teams. We don’t know all of the details in their agreement, but we saw a video of Jackson talking about it. Jackson said, “There has been a lot of drama lately but for the next five years, we will be together as a team again – like a big flock or group! Let’s go, let’s go. I am so excited to make ‘M&T Bank Stadium’ shine over the next five years- let’s do this!” Jackson has officially signed a deal with the NFL and everything is ready for the start of their big event. Ravens can now be sure that Jackson will play in the first game this season without anydelay. To make matters even better, they also got Odell Beckham Jr. to be part of their wide-receiving team! Additionally, they have hired Todd Monken from Georgia as their new offensive coordinator too. Jackson is a very special NFL player who was drafted in 2018. He’s already done something that only five other players have done before – he has 10,000 yards of passing and 4,000 yards of rushing. Although Jackson has been injured the last two seasons, he’s still young at 26 years old and there could be many more great things ahead for him. The most recent good news is he is staying with the Baltimore team! Jackson was discussing his salary without the help of a representative, and he would have earned $32.4 million that season if he had stayed with the same team. That option could be risky because Jackson may have lost money if he got hurt, or he may not have been very happy in the team either. Last year there wasn’t an apparent issue, but Jackson announced in March that he asked to switch teams a few weeks before. Jackson and the Ravens now seem to both agree that it’s time to move forward. It’s a cool coincidence that news about Jackson’s new contract was shared the same day as the draft. Five years ago, he wasn’t one of the most wanted players and ended up being taken at spot 32 in Baltimore. Only Josh Allen who went before him has had some similar success with Buffalo and signed a long-term deal two summers back. Want to know the latest news about NFL games?
