Movies Protests in NYC Emerge for ‘The Joker’ — Not Trump by Joshua Brown March 25, 2023 written by Joshua Brown March 25, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 59 Hundreds of people gathered outside the courthouse, shouting for justice. The police were there to make sure nothing got out of hand while TV crews filmed it all. There were a lot of cars around the whole scene. Saturday in New York City was a busy day! The city authorities were preparing for something special as Former President Donald Trump had called his supporters to gather. But it turns out that the crowd actually gathered for the filming of a movie – “Joker” sequel! Everyone quite enjoying the scene silently until the director said “Cut!” and everybody dispersed. The crew behind the filming of a new movie called “Joker” had planned their shoot in New York City for a while, but they were worried because recently there have been some protests related to Donald Trump and they thought that might cause trouble with the shoot. In the end, they decided to go ahead with it as they needed to finish what they had started. Leo Maniscalchi, who works as part of this film crew, said that even though there was a risk, “they needed to do what they need to get this done.” In the movie, “The Joker”, Joaquin Phoenix incites people to demonstrate against Gotham’s wealthy class. Similarly, in real life, Trump asked his fans to march against an allegation that he had paid $130,000 to keep an adult film actress mum. They are continuing to film the scene despite bad weather conditions since they can’t stop production over anything. For the past week, lots of reporters have been standing outside a courthouse recording what’s happening. A few days ago, there was a protest organized by young people who are Republicans but it wasn’t very big. It was even being rumored that people who like President Trump would be coming to the courthouse too, however, nobody came and there wasn’t a march from Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue to the lower part of New York City where the courthouse is located either. The last time we saw the Joker, he was running in a mental hospital with Frank Sinatra singing “That’s Life”. In the sequel movie called “Joker: Folie à Deux”, Lady Gaga is starring as Harley Quinn and their relationship will be explored. This musical-like movie is expected to come out by late next year. Siris Pagan (30) and his friend Marissa Perez went to Manhattan to witness its filming. While they were filming, everyone suddenly heard loud voices coming from a block away. Pagan thought it was just part of the movie but then he understood that something else was actually going on outside. The abortion issue had two groups fighting for attention and reality and make-believe had come together in an unexpected way. Jaymie Robinson, a 24-year-old from Newark, New Jersey said that one observer was uncertain if she was part of a real protest. But the cameras, fake police cars and signs with ‘Free Joker’ written on them should have been obvious indicators that it was related to filming. Laurie Allard, who had come from Montreal, Canada also did not initially know it was connected to filming when touring downtown Manhattan. She knew something was happening near her and she had heard of the Trump case. But when she saw all the people, she felt a bit surprised. She thought to herself “I hope I don’t get stuck in some protest or something”. The filming is still happening on Sunday.
