Principal Resigns After Uproar Over Nudity of ‘David’ Statue

The principal of a Florida school called the Tallahassee Classical School, named Hope Carrasquilla, had to resign after a parent complained. The reason for this resignation was because one of the lessons she gave in sixth grade exposed kids to pornographic material. This lesson focused on art from the Renaissance period and included the “David” sculpture by Michelangelo.

A parent didn’t like the material that was given to their children in class, so two other parents asked to be told about the lesson before it was taught. This included works by Michelangelo such as “Creation of Adam” and a painting by Botticelli called “Birth of Venus”. Carrasquilla, who gave this lesson, sadly said goodbye due to these events.

The ‘David’ statue’s lack of clothes has been a debate topic for hundreds of years. The Roman Catholic Church thought nudity was inappropriate so they put metal leaves around statues like David’s private parts in the 1500s. There were also people on social media who noticed that the conversation was similar to a scene from “The Simpsons” cartoon, where characters discussed whether the “David” statue should be censored or not.
