Previewing Levis and Hooker: NFL Draft Day 2’s Top Prospects

Will Levis, a quarterback from Kentucky, was expected to be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft but instead he still hasn’t been chosen and is now going into Round 2. ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. thought that maybe someone would pick him up when it got to the halfway point, like the Rams did, but it didn’t happen.

Kiper thinks the Rams might pick Will Levis in the second round of the NFL Draft. Levis was injured last year and couldn’t perform as well as he usually does, so other drafters believed that he could get picked as high as number two overall.

Kiper said everyone expected Levis to be chosen during the first round of the draft, but he dropped a lot lower than that. He was probably going to end up at Tampa Bay for the 19th pick, but eventually ended up being selected in the second round – just like Boomer Esiason, Brett Favre, and Geno Smith did before him.

At the NFL draft on Thursday night, quarterbacks were really popular again — except for Levis and Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker. There were some unexpected trades that took place, plus two running backs chosen in the top twelve picks and a few wide receivers who were selected towards the end even though there weren’t very many players available.

This year, three of the first four players chosen were quarterbacks. That’s a bit different than last year when only one quarterback was taken in the first round and the third quarterback didn’t get chosen until the 86th pick in Round 3.

Carolina chose Bryce Young of Alabama as the top overall pick and Houston selected CJ Stroud from Ohio State instead of Levis. Lastly, Indianapolis went with Anthony Richardson Jr. from Florida rather than choosing Levis.

Hooker was expecting to be picked in the second round of the draft, even after he injured his ACL last November. People were worried that Hooker’s age and playing style would take away from his chances of being chosen high in the draft, but not enough for him to get picked in the first round.

Leiwas sitting uneasily on televsion as millions watched, trying to figure out if he would be chosen right after Young or not.

Many people were certain that two players, Levis and Hooker, would be picked as the first round’s players in the draft. This is because having a star quarterback has become extremely important these days, just like it was for Patrick Mahomes who got a lot of fans excited before the draft started happening in Kansas City.

Rounds 2 and 3 will happen on Friday night and it will be followed by rounds 4-7 on Saturday.

Michael Mayer, who goes to Notre Dame, and Luke Musgrave, who goes to Oregon State, were two of the many talented tight ends that had to wait overnight for the NFL draft this year. The first one picked was Dalton Kincaid from Utah, who was chosen 25th overall by the Buffalo Bills – their quarterback Josh Allen will now have a good target in the red zone (close to where you throw touchdowns).

Brian Branch from Alabama, Joey Porter Jr. from Penn State, and Kelee Ringo from Georgia might all be chosen to be cornerbacks in the upcoming draft. Branch has been helping anchor Nick Saban’s defense strategy while three of his college teammates have already gotten chosen as top picks on Thursday.

At the top of the list is O’Cyrus Torrence from Florida, who did really well against Georgia’s Jalen Carter in a special game called the Senior Bowl. Carter was part of a car accident after Georgia won the national championship, and he got picked by Philadelphia, who is an NFC champion team, on Thursday night.

On Thursday night, four NFL teams didn’t get to do any of the fun stuff like trading and picking good players. That’s because a while back, they had already given away their first picks. The Miami Dolphins weren’t even allowed to pick at all because they had broken the rules by talking about Tom Brady and Sean Payton before both players were free!

On Friday, two teams (the Rams and Dolphins) are set to make their choices early in the second round of the NFL Draft. The Broncos and Browns have to wait until the third round, although they can move up if they want to. The 49ers aren’t as lucky as those other three teams since they don’t have any picks until 98 players have already been chosen. They get a ‘compensatory pick’ after Round 3 but before Round 4 in this draft.
