Powerball Announces Billion-Dollar Jackpot Winner at Last

A lucky ticket holder in California has finally bagged the enormous Powerball jackpot valued at an estimated $1.08 billion, making it the sixth biggest jackpot in U.S. history and the third biggest in the game’s record.

The winning ticket was drawn on Wednesday night, and the victorious combination included the white balls numbered 7, 10, 11, 13, 24, and the red Powerball 24. According to a post on Twitter by the California Lottery, the triumphant ticket was sold in Los Angeles, at the Las Palmitas Mini Market.

The jackpot’s final value soared past the previous projection of $1 billion, reaching $1.08 billion due to an influx of last-minute ticket sales. This propelled it from the seventh to the sixth largest U.S lottery jackpot ever claimed.

The fortunate winner has the option to receive the entire jackpot value in yearly installments or opt for a single payment of $558.1 million before taxes.

Powerball’s daunting odds, set at 1 in 292.2 million, serve to generate sizable prizes that lure in more participants. The biggest Powerball jackpot on record was a staggering $2.04 billion in November.

Before this, the Powerball jackpot was last won on April 19, with a hefty prize of nearly $253 million. Since that time, the grand prize had remained unclaimed.
