NATO (a powerful military alliance) has given Ukraine almost all of the weapons they pledged when Russia invaded Ukraine. This means Ukraine now has more power to strike back against any invading forces!

Ukraine’s allies have sent over 1,550 armored vehicles and 230 tanks as well as a lot of ammunition. They have also trained and equipped more than thirty thousand troops who make up new brigades. Several other countries like Sweden and Australia have provided even more armored vehicles.

Yesterday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a “long and meaningful” phone call with China’s leader Xi Jinping. This news was welcomed by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg who said it will help Ukraine to get back territories that Russia has occupied for more than a year.

Ukraine’s president, Zelenskyy, was happy after speaking to Western leaders on Wednesday but this hasn’t changed the chances of a peaceful solution just yet.

Russia and Ukraine don’t agree on how peace should be solved, but China hasn’t said anything about it despite their efforts to be a big diplomatic power. China sees Russia as an ally against US influence in global affairs, so the Chinese president Xi Jinping recently visited Moscow.

NATO’s leader said the group wants to help Ukraine increase its military power so that it can take back land from Russia if talks for peace ever happen. Ukraine’s Prime Minister was happy after their president talked with China’s leader because the call went very well.

After visiting Pope Francis at the Vatican, Shmyhal said that he thought it was a good start for their relationship in the future. But, Russia’s reaction wasn’t very enthusiastic. When asked if this call could help stop the war in Ukraine, a spokesman from Russia named Dmitry Peskov answered that they would accept anything which leads to finishing this conflict and accomplishing all the objectives by Russia.

A spokesperson from Russia said the phone call between Chinese and Ukrainian leaders was something that only those two countries could discuss.

In Ukraine, the fighting has been mostly paused but the Russian military have still been bombing some parts of the country which often includes residential areas and other places where civilians are located.

Seven people were killed and 33 were injured according to Ukraine’s presidential office during the two-day period wednesday and Thursday. One person was killed and 23 were wounded including a child when four missiles hit Mykolaiv, a city in southern Ukraine. The governor of this area, Vitalii Kim also said that 22 large buildings, 12 houses, and other structures were damaged due to this attack.

Kalibr missiles were launched from a ship or submarine in the Black Sea and they hit Mykolaiv, according to what Ukraine’s Operational Command South reported. People in Brussels, Tallinn (Estonia), and Rome also contributed information about this event.
