The NASCAR race at the Michigan International Speedway, part of the Cup Series, was halted on Sunday due to rainfall and has been rescheduled to continue on Monday.

The FireKeepers 400 faced a starting delay of 1 hour and 43 minutes due to rain. After completing 74 laps, the rain forced the drivers to halt their vehicles during a red-flag interruption that went on for nearly an hour. Eventually, the 200-lap race was postponed.

Tyler Reddick was leading shortly before the suspension, with Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson, and points leader Martin Truex Jr. close behind.

Kyle Busch’s participation ended prematurely, just 14 laps in, when he spun and collided with a wall following side-by-side contact with Ryan Blaney. Truex managed to stay in the race and assumed the lead.

While Busch’s playoff position is stable with three victories, another driver who crashed 20 laps later finds himself in a vulnerable spot.

Chase Elliott, who lost control of his No. 9 Chevrolet due to a tire failure, likely needs a win in one of the remaining three races to secure his place in the postseason. Elliott, who contended for the title for three consecutive years and won the Cup championship in 2020, is under pressure to perform.

Recently, at Richmond, Chris Buescher marked himself as the 12th playoff-eligible victor of the year, leaving only four playoff spots with four races, including Michigan, left in the regular season.

After Truex’s first stage victory, William Byron, who has claimed four wins this year, hit a wall without another car’s involvement, resulting in another significant driver exiting the race.

Josh Berry, substituting for the suspended Noah Gragson in the No. 42 Chevrolet, was involved in the fourth crash within the initial 50 laps of a race filled with cautions.

Corey Lajoie and Blaney had an on-track collision as they competed side by side, leading to a heated exchange on pit road.

As the battle for playoff spots intensifies, it’s expected that the tensions will rise again during Monday afternoon’s continuation of the race.
