Mike Pence: How Donald Trump Endangered My Family on January 6th

Saturday, former Vice President Mike Pence criticized ex-President Donald Trump for causing the U.S Capitol riot that happened on January 6th. This disagreement between them suggests there will be a competition for the Republican nomination next year.

VP Pence said at the important Gridiron Dinner that President Trump was wrong. He didn’t have the right to try and change the election’s results and his thoughtless words put his family – and everyone else present in the Capitol – in danger, so history will judge Donald Trump for it.

Vice President Pence spoke harshly against former President Trump. He used to be loyal to him, but now he is not anymore. Trump already announced that he’s running for president again, while Pence has still not made any statements regarding this yet – although it looks like he might be planning to do so too.

Before January 6th, 2021, President Trump wanted Vice President Mike Pence to take away Joe Biden’s win in the election. However, Pence refused and when people started going crazy at the Capitol, some of them were yelling that they wanted to hurt Pence.

The House committee that checked out what happened said in their report that the President had made a bunch of people angry with him who then went after his own Vice President.

VP Mike Pence’s comments started a big argument between people in the Republican Party. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy showed Tucker Carlson some security camera videos from Jan. 6, and he is using those videos to make it seem like what happened that day wasn’t so bad, and is even spreading crazy ideas about it.

Vice President Pence said that the events of that day were terrible and wrong, and we shouldn’t try to make it sound any better. President Trump on the other hand has been saying untrue things about his election loss, and even talked about supporting the rioters and potentially giving them a pardon if he won reelection again. However, at the Gridiron Dinner where politicians joke around with each other, Pence also had some funny moments too.

Pence was making a joke that President Trump was so insecure, he wanted Pence to sing the song ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ at their weekly lunches – this song includes a line about calling someone your hero.

He then made another comment about the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago by saying they somehow ended up in Trump’s Bible, implying that he had no clue of their existence.

Vice President Pence was criticized at the dinner after he made some jokes about Transportation Secretary Buttigieg. Buttigieg is a special Cabinet member because he is the first openly gay person in U.S. history. Pence talked about how, even though there were travel issues, Buttigieg “got maternity leave” when him and his husband adopted newborn twins. He said that Pete was “the only human ever to have a child and not experience post-partum depression”.
