SportsAustinKeegan Bradley Keegan Bradley’s Tie in Match Play: Proof That Every Effort Counts by Lucas Garcia March 23, 2023 written by Lucas Garcia March 23, 2023 0 comments Bookmark 63 Keegan Bradley hadn’t won a game in the Dell Technologies Match Play for 11 years and 16 matches. But he was feeling like a winner on Wednesday, even though he was four holes behind with just five holes to play. He fought hard and was eventually able to tie his match against Denny McCarthy at Austin Country Club. Brady said he is excited that this could lead him to many more victories in the future. Scottie Scheffler, the defending champion and top seed, wasn’t doing great near the end – missing two shots from within 5 feet away. But miraculously at the 18th hole, he sunk a 12-footer shot for birdie which got even their score with Davis Riley – who won 10 years ago in the U.S. Junior Amateur title match against Scheffler. Unfortunately, Jon Rahm (No. 2 seed) was not that lucky as Rickie Fowler beat him on the 17th hole for the first time ever in an opening round – making him only one of four seeds to lose out across all players! At 44, Matt Kuchar is the oldest player out of the whole group. He managed to beat Viktor Hovland and won his 35th match – one short of what Tiger Woods have achieved in tournaments. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy used a shorter driver and a new putter which helped him win in 3-and-1 against Scott Stallings. Nothing was decided on Wednesday in the first round of the group competition. One player from each group will join the Knockout Stage this weekend. Every point counts and even a half-point was important to Bradley. In 2012, Bradley made his first Match Play tournament. He beat Geoff Ogilvy who has the highest winning rate (80%) ever in these events. Even though it was his last win, he had fought hard ever since that time. Since 2015, he competed in 11 different matches and each one of them was decided on the 18th hole – either a victory or draw! Bradley was in a tough situation as he went 4 down after dropping into the water on the 13th hole. But, he didn’t give up and started hitting some good shots. This paid off for him in the end. Bradley won two holes when McCarthy missed a 4-foot putt, and made a 6-foot birdie on the next one. Bradley followed that up with an 6-foot eagle to win the 16th, and after they halved the 17th hole, Bradley hit wedged to make a 6-feet shot to draw their match to a tie. On the other hand, Adam Scott made it in the end by sinking a 25-foot birdie putting during his last hole against Seamus Power, who was never leading at any point until then. Scott said that it felt really good to win something, as his last win happens three years ago at Riviera. Meanwhile, Scheffler faced Riley in the championship match and didn’t give any chance for Riley to take the lead throughout. The last bit of this intense competition was like a ‘pillow fight’, where both of them had an equal chance of winning. Scheffler drove right up to the edge of the green on the 13th. He did this by making a long 25-foot putt which gave him a two-point lead and basically put him in control. However, his next drive was not so lucky as he hooked it into the Colorado River. Even then he still had a chance to tie the hole but missed his 5-foot putt. At the 15th hole, the Masters champion missed a 10-foot putt and had another chance to tie up the game on the 16th but his 3-footer didn’t work out. Then he got an opportunity for revenge as his challenger missed a 3-foot putt which could have been the end of it all! Riley was 8 feet away from getting a birdie at the 18th hole, but Scheffler made his 12 footer instead! To show his joy, Scheffler did a fist pump and breathed a sigh of relief. He said that he would remember this moment and use it to build momentum going forward. It was a really great day – J.J. Spaun hit an amazing shot to win over U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick and Jordan Spieth had a chip-in birdie which led him to victory against Mackenzie Hughes in 4 rounds! Matt Kuchar wouldn’t have been able to join the 64-man field if it wasn’t for nine people being unable to compete. Now he is trying to beat Tiger Woods who was successful with 12 wins and three titles. Kuchar started by winning the first three holes against No. 8 seed Hovland , but Hovland made too many mistakes and couldn’t keep up. Kuchar commented saying, “I’ve been on this field for a while now, so any time I talk about Tiger Woods it’s pretty cool”. His record at Match Play improved to 35 wins, 11 losses and 4 ties. This year, McIlroy has had issues with his driver so he reduced the length of the shaft from 44 1/2 inches to 44 inches – which will help him spin the ball more. He also got a putter that is similar to the one he used to win his first two majors a long time ago. “I needed to switch to a golf club that is not as hard and it helped me hit more shots. Today I drove well on the back nine, while thinking about this tournament as well as Augusta. “ You Might Be Interested In Expert Picks: Bengals Predicted to Triumph Over Cowboys in Super Bowl 58 Japan Defies the Odds: How Shohei Ohtani Fans Mike Trout and Wins the WBC Championship Texas A&M-CC Makes History with NCAA First Four Win Over SE Missouri St NFL Draft Live Updates: Who Will Be the First Pick?
