Julia Ormond sues Harvey Weinstein saying he assaulted her; accuses CAA, Disney, Miramax of enabling

Julia Ormond has initiated a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 1995 and subsequently impeded her career. The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan under the Adult Survivors Act, which permits individuals to file sexual assault claims beyond the normal deadlines, also implicates The Walt Disney Co., Miramax, and her former agents.

In her legal complaint, Ormond, who had been on the rise in her acting career, asserts that she encountered Weinstein in 1994 and maintained communication with him regarding scripts and projects. In 1995, she entered into a production agreement with Miramax, where Weinstein held a co-chairmanship position. Ormond accuses Weinstein of sexually assaulting her in December 1995 after a business meeting and subsequently taking retaliatory actions that negatively impacted her career after she confronted him weeks later.

Ormond disclosed the incident to her U.S. agents at the time, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), but alleges that she received no support and was advised against pursuing legal action or any other measures. She further accuses CAA, Disney, and Miramax of being aware of Weinstein’s problematic behavior towards women but failing to take action to stop him or assist her.

According to the lawsuit, “none of these prominent companies warned Ormond that Weinstein had a history of assaulting women because he was too important, too powerful, and made them too much money.”

It is worth noting that this marks the first time Julia Ormond has publicly accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. While The Big Big News typically refrains from naming victims of sexual assault, it does so in this instance due to Ormond’s public statements on the matter, including an interview with Variety.

Harvey Weinstein, who is currently incarcerated in New York after being convicted of rape and sexual assault in 2020, as well as facing another rape conviction in Los Angeles last year, has appealed both convictions. Weinstein’s attorney, Imran Ansari, vehemently denies the allegations made by Julia Ormond.

Requests for comment from CAA, Disney, and Miramax have been made, but responses are pending.
