He didn’t win, but he ended up in fourth place with 7 under par, which was five shots behind the winner, Jon Rahm. Unfortunately for him, Phil Mickelson also scored 21 birdies – even including eight on the last day. He managed to get five birdies in the last seven holes and finished at 8 under par above Spieth. Jordan Spieth said he tried to compete with Phil shot for shot during the final round at Augusta National. The 29-year-old admitted that he made a lot of errors due to mental fatigue, leading to 10 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. He further added that it was because he had been playing golf for 8 out of the last 10 weeks, so going forward he needs to modify his schedule in order to stay focused during Masters Week. The 2015 Masters champion said that he wasn’t choosing a target for his shots half of the time, even though he normally does it always. He added that this might have caused him to leave out a few shots during Thursday and Friday. Scottie Scheffler’s attempt to win the Masters again didn’t work out because he had some difficulties in putting. Scott Scheffler was the top player in the world and expected to win, but he finished tying for 10th place. He had a lot more putts (128) than when he won last year by three strokes over Rory McIlroy. By the end of the tournament, Scott tied with other players for having the most putts out of everyone at the event. “The first two days were terrible for me because my good putts weren’t going in, and neither were the bad ones,” Scheffler said, smiling when he finally made a shot that was 40 feet long on No. 11 Sunday – although it didn’t help him to win the game. Many golf fans might recognize Sahith Theegala since he was featured in the Netflix documentary called “Full Swing.” This week, this 25-year-old player showed that they have great skills in golf. On the final round, they scored 67 which brought them to 5 under in the championship. That scored them a spot within the top 12 and ties, meaning that they can come back to compete at August National again next year! Theegala said he tried his best to get everything he could out of the round because he had been playing really well. His greatest moment happened at the 16th hole, where he overshot the green, just like Tiger Woods did when he won the green jacket in 2005. And, Theegala ended up making a great shot and getting it into the cup! Many people cheered and said things like “Do it for Tiger!” when I hit my chip shot and the ball went onto the green. Even though I’m excited to watch the replay of what happened, I don’t remember what my exact shot was because I was so happy with how it turned out! Golfers from the LIV tour did very well at the Masters tournament. The top finisher, Brooks Koepka, was in first place after three rounds but then lost his lead and ended up tied for second with Mickelson. Patrick Reed also competed, tying for fourth place. “It was really cool to play together with the PGA Tour guys,” said Patrick Reed. “They all acted super friendly, whether I was part of LIV or playing against them. Most fans didn’t treat me any different on the course – I heard lots of cheers, like ‘go for aces!’ and some occasional whispers every now and then.” Sam Bennett from Texas A&M started up the tournament really well by getting 2 scores of 68 each, but his final score of 76 and 74 prevented him getting an automatic exemption. But he did end as the lowest amateur overall and made some great memories along the way. He said that although he didn’t play as well as he had hoped to, the experience will still be very helpful in making him a better golfer. David Skretta wrote this report.
