Jay-Z’s Made In America fest canceled due to ‘severe circumstances outside of production control’

The annual Made in America festival hosted by Jay-Z, which was set to happen next month in Philadelphia, has been called off.

The 2023 Made in America festival, slated for September 2-3 on Benjamin Franklin Parkway with lead performers like Lizzo and SZA, won’t be occurring due to “serious circumstances beyond the control of production,” according to a statement posted on social media platforms.

The cancellation came after substantial consideration, emphasizing that the decision was neither made lightly nor without intense reflection. The statement underlined the festival’s tradition of offering exceptional experiences to music enthusiasts and attendees, with a commitment to maintaining a high-quality event.

While the precise cause for the cancellation remains undisclosed, questions regarding the matter were directed back to the statement by the promoter, Live Nation.

Refunds will be provided to those who purchased tickets, and the statement also included words of anticipation for the festival’s return the following year.

The festival, a regular event in Philadelphia over Labor Day weekend since 2012 (except for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic), had announced its lineup just two months prior. Scheduled performers included Miguel, Tems, Metro Boomin, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Latto, Lil Yachty, Doechii, Lola, and numerous others.

Philadelphia’s Mayor, Jim Kenney, voiced his regret over the unexpected turn of events, stating, “Since 2012, Made in America has blossomed into a Philadelphia tradition on Labor Day Weekend that not only celebrates music but also furthers valuable social initiatives.” He conveyed gratitude to all the collaborators and festival attendees who contributed to the event’s remarkable success over the years, highlighting Roc Nation in particular, and expressed enthusiasm for bringing Made in America back to Benjamin Franklin Parkway in a more grand fashion next year.

As of now, Roc Nation has not responded to AP’s request for comment regarding the situation.
