Charged with four counts of first-degree murder, Kaylor is believed to have carried out the killings on Father’s Day in Kellogg, a city situated almost 400 miles north of Boise. The victims of the tragic incident were identified as Kenneth Guardipee, 65, his daughter Kenna Guardipee, 41, and her two sons, Devin Smith, 18, and Aiken Smith, 16. This was confirmed by an Idaho State Police detective in a probable cause affidavit released on Tuesday evening. Kaylor and his spouse, Kaylie Kaylor, told police they were disturbed by Devin Smith’s alleged lewd behavior, which involved exposing himself through his bedroom window, visible to the Kaylor’s young daughters. This incident reportedly occurred as the girls were playing in the yard of their shared duplex. The police were informed of the alleged exposure and the report was forwarded to the county prosecutor on the same day, intending to file a criminal charge, Kellogg Police Chief Paul Twidt informed The Big Big News on Tuesday. However, on Sunday evening, a dispute broke out between the Kaylors and the Guardipees over the handling of the allegation. The argument culminated in Kaylor allegedly shooting Kenna and Kenneth Guardipee before entering their apartment to murder the two sons, as the probable cause affidavit suggests. According to Kenneth Guardipee’s brother, Russell, Kenneth played a crucial role in helping his daughter raise her two sons, ensuring they attended after-school activities and medical appointments. Despite acknowledging Devin Smith’s behavioral challenges, Russell Guardipee did not provide further details. Katy James, a close friend of the family, shared with The Spokesman-Review newspaper that Devin Smith, despite grappling with a learning disability and issues with social cues, had shown significant progress. The Guardipee family were known for their love of outdoor activities such as mountain biking and skiing. Kenna Guardipee often shared pictures of their biking adventures against picturesque mountainous backdrops. Devin had recently completed high school, and Aiken was a part of the local Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Kenna was employed as a cook at a nearby assisted living facility. By Tuesday evening, an outpouring of grief and condolences was visible outside the family home, as friends and relatives left balloons, flowers, and photos. Kaylor made his court debut on Tuesday and is being held without bond. He is yet to enter a plea, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 3. Prosecutors could potentially seek the death penalty. After the incident, Kaylie Kaylor revealed to police that her husband had previously warned authorities that he would take matters into his own hands if a similar incident of indecent exposure occurred again. Kaylie Kaylor understood this to mean that her husband intended to confront the offender physically. She also disclosed that the couple had shared a meme referencing Leon Gary Plauche, a father who fatally shot a man suspected of kidnapping and sexually abusing his son in 1984. Furthermore, she said that after the shootings, her husband gave her his personal items and told her to assure their children that he had acted to protect them. Upon arriving at the scene in response to two 911 calls, the police found Majorjon Kaylor still present. Kaylor told the police that he suspected Devin Smith, was concerned for his own children, and felt that the Guardipees weren’t addressing his worries, as stated in the affidavit. In the affidavit, Kaylor was quoted as saying he ‘snapped,’ ‘lost it,’ and ‘did something about it.’ The charges allege that the shootings were premeditated acts of vengeance. Under Idaho law, entering a residence with the intention to commit a felony such as murder is considered burglary.
