Four dead in Missouri after car crosses center line, strikes motorcyclists

A devastating accident on a Missouri highway resulted in the death of four individuals and serious injury to seven more, after a car veered over the center line and collided with five motorcycles.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon on Missouri Route 39, close to Aurora, a town in southwestern Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Toyota Corolla unexpectedly swerved over the center line of the two-lane highway, hitting the motorcycles and forcefully ejecting all riders and passengers. One of the motorcycles subsequently burst into flames.

The deceased, all residents of Aurora, were identified as James Olmsted, aged 59, Kameron Hale, aged 28, Linda Anderson, aged 61, and a 17-year-old girl whose identity remains undisclosed. Olmstead and Hale were reported to have been piloting the motorcycles, while Anderson and the teenager were passengers.

The 51-year-old female driver of the Toyota was taken into custody under suspicion of being impaired at the time of the accident, the patrol informed KYTV-TV. Legal charges had not been formally filed as of Sunday.
