Part of that plan is to take down the bridge that connects Crimea and Russia. Ukraine is getting ready to fight back against Russia after over a year of war. Oleksiy Danilov, the Secretary of the country’s National Security and Defense Council, created a plan for this. Crimea was taken by Russia in 2014 and most countries don’t accept it as Russian land. If there are any negotiations to make the current fighting stop, deciding what happens with Crimea will be an important part of that conversation. Russia is demanding that Ukraine acknowledges that Russia is in control of Crimea and other lands. Ukraine said they will not hold peace talks until the Russian soldiers are gone from all the areas taken over. The man, Danilov, suggested punishing Ukrainians who worked for the Moscow-appointing authority in Crimea by charging them with a crime or taking away their government pensions and preventing them from getting jobs from the government. Russian politician, Danilov, wants all people who moved to Crimea after 2014 to leave and for all deals made since then to become unimportant. He also suggests tearing down a big bridge connecting Russia and Crimea which was damaged by an explosion in October. The bridge is the biggest one in Europe. Russia fixed a bridge that was damaged and supplies were able to reach Crimea once again. The Russian military have been using this area often for the war. Moscow believed that Ukrainian troops caused the attack, even though Ukraine didn’t admit it. In the past, Ukraine had spoken about maybe attacking the bridge. Danilov suggested that the city of Sevastopol should be renamed; Sevastopol is the base for Russia’s Black Sea Navy since the 1800s. He said it should temporarily be called “Object No. 6” until Ukraine can come up with an official name, like maybe Akhtiar which was once a village where Sevastopol stands now. But Mikhail Razvozhayev, who Moscow picked to lead Sevastopol, refused Danilov’s plan and called it “crazy”. Razvozhayev said that people who are ill should not be taken seriously, and our military is working to help them get better. In addition, Danilov made a plan when the Ukrainian army was getting ready to use new Western weapons such as tanks to take back control of territories from the Russians which could potentially happen very soon. Soldiers from Russia are trying to get control of the important city, Bakhmut, in Ukraine. It is part of Donetsk, which is a big area full of industrial buildings in the east of Ukraine. The fight has been going on for 8 months and it’s very dangerous. Russia’s missiles and cannons have caused the deaths of 4 people, and 15 others were injured since Saturday. Two men were killed on Sunday when a milk truck was hit in the northern area of Sumy. In Ukraine, six people died and eight were hurt when Russian missiles attacked Kostiantynivka, a small city. The attack also caused damages to several houses. In addition, in the city of Melitopol which is occupied by Russia, Ukrainian rockets struck a train station and damaged an apartment building. As a result of this event, six civilians got wounded. Ukrainian officials didn’t directly admit that they had caused an attack. But the mayor of Kyiv, Ivan Fedorov, made a happy announcement about explosions at the engine depot, calling it a “great week for invaders” where other attacks happened in recent days. Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th 2022, the war has led to lots of damage and the death of many people. The Ukrainian Sports Minister said that 262 Ukrainian athletes have died as a result of the war in Ukraine. One of them was Vitalii Merinov, a four-time world kickboxing champion who had also joined the Ukrainian armed forces. Unfortunately, he died on Friday due to injuries suffered while fighting.
