DeSantis Targets Trump

The setting of the debate, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, underlined the GOP’s deviation from Reagan’s foundational ideologies, notably on immigration. Governor Christie publicly distanced himself from Reagan’s calls for amnesty, insisting that times have changed, thus altering the feasibility of such policies.

Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina and the child of Indian immigrants, took an even more hardline stance, suggesting that foreign aid to Latin America should cease until border security is fortified.
