This tornado outbreak occurred merely six days after another tornado claimed three lives and injured over 100 individuals in Perryton, located in the northern Texas Panhandle.

At around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement confirmed the presence of a tornado just north of Matador, as reported by the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

By 9:30 p.m., William Iwasko, a senior forecaster from the same weather service, confirmed the occurrence of three tornadoes within the storm system, with the one in Matador inflicting the most significant destruction.
