Daylight Saving Time: How it’s Replacing Standard Time in the US

This weekend, we can expect standard time in most parts of the United States to end. That means one night you will lose an hour of sleep, but luckily it also means that during the months ahead, evenings will become brighter! The switch to daylight saving time officially happens at 2 a.m. on Sunday and exactly three weeks afterwards around March 20th winter sunsets come to an end and spring arrives.

It’s almost the end of daylight savings time! On Nov. 5, the sun will start rising later in the morning, but it’ll stay light for longer in the evening. Remember to set your clocks an hour ahead before you go to bed on Saturday night.

There are some places that don’t follow daylight savings time, like Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico and a few other small areas.

In October 2021, a poll showed that most people in the United States don’t want to keep switching between daylight saving time and normal time. It also found that there is no one opinion on which time should be used all year round.

A research by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs found out that the majority of people don’t like switching between standard and daylight saving time. 43% want to use standard time all year long, while 32% prefer daylight savings all year round. Only 25% of those considered agreed with switching between both times.
