David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan cast as Superman and Lois Lane in James Gunn movie

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been chosen by James Gunn to play the iconic roles of Superman and Lois Lane in his upcoming movie.

The announcement was made by the DC Studios co-chair, who will be writing and directing “Superman: Legacy” set to release in July 2025. Warner Bros. also confirmed the casting news.

Speculation has been rife about who would take over the mantle of Superman after Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the character on the silver screen for the past decade. David Corenswet emerged victorious among strong contenders like Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. The 29-year-old actor, hailing from Philadelphia, gained recognition for his roles in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” and “Hollywood,” where he played an aspiring actor. He also appeared in Ti West’s “Pearl” as a theater owner entangled with Mia Goth’s aspiring actress.

On the other hand, Rachel Brosnahan brings her well-known talent to the role of Lois Lane. Having recently concluded her successful five-season run as the lead in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Brosnahan’s portrayal of Midge Maisel earned her accolades such as an Emmy and two Golden Globe awards. Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were reportedly among the actors vying for the role of Lois Lane.

James Gunn, along with seasoned producer Peter Safran, was brought on board last year to revitalize Warner Bros.’ DC strategy. Their ambitious 10-year plan commences with “Superman: Legacy,” which Gunn has described as a film exploring the superhero’s quest to reconcile his noble Kryptonian heritage with his humble upbringing in a small midwestern town as Clark Kent.
