DA Leading Trump Case Refuses to be Cowed By Rhetoric : How the District Attorney is Defending Her Office

Alvin Bragg, who works as the District Attorney for Manhattan, recently declared that he and his staff will not interfere or change their plan with whatever Donald Trump does. He’s making it clear that he and his team won’t be scared or pressured by anyone when they decide if Donald Trump should be charged.

After President Trump posted three tweets with all capitalized words, which said that he could be arrested soon and also asked his supporters to protest and “TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”, Bragg sent out a memo late Saturday.

A representative has been calling people to a special court meeting that’s looking into money paid on behalf of Donald Trump when was running for president in 2016, but the representative didn’t say Donald’s name. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers are preparing for something unexpected like if maybe Donald comes and shows up at a court in New York City.

The state office in New York said that it won’t allow people to try and scare or threaten the law. This comes from all the news about an investigation happening right now. After that was mentioned, people started to talk about protests, like a rally this coming Monday organized by the New York Young Republican Club.

Law enforcement officials in New York are watching what people are saying over the internet about President Trump being arrested. Some of these messages suggest that people should try to stop any possible arrest from happening by blocking officers or arming themselves, according to four law enforcement agents. This kind of talk is mainly taking place in online groups and chat rooms.

Police are thinking about ways to keep people safe near the Manhattan criminal court if Donald Trump is ever charged with a crime. These plans would involve closing off nearby streets and putting big trucks on other roads – just like what happens during large parades or events in New York City.

The people in charge had to keep the security plans a secret and talked to someone called AP (Application Provider) who kept their names anonymous. Bragg, a politician from the Democratic party, stepped into office in January 2022 with having to continue an investigation about Trump that started long time ago. Surprisingly he faced criticism not from Trump but from those prosecutors who wanted him to prosecute Trump for some business frauds.

Before he started looking at something different, Mr. Bragg had successfully proven that President Trump’s organization and his finance chief both committed a crime by not paying their taxes as they should’ve done. Now, he is focusing on something else – investigating the payments made by them which has been doing this same thing for the past six years.

Joshua Bragg, who is in charge of a certain investigation, has written a memo to his 1,600 employees. The memo was written to help reassure his employees in the face of any hostility they may be facing from President Trump and his supporters. He also mentioned that court officers and police are there to make sure everyone is safe and to investigate any threats that might come up against them.

The memo, as well as recent posts of President Trump, showed the different personalities between Trump and Bragg, both born in New York but coming from different times and places. Bragg mostly like to stay away from interviews and his office is not saying a single word regarding the investigation about paying hush money or Trump’s comments.

No one said when a decision will be made to charge Trump and there will be one more person who will give their testimony, probably on Monday. This means that no final vote about indictment has taken place yet.

Donald Trump criticized Manhattan’s first Black district attorney, Bragg, in a post on Sunday. Trump called him out as a “Racist in Reverse” without any proof. He thinks that Bragg follows what the Justice Department tells him and is controlled by billionaire Democratic donor George Soros. George supported Bragg’s campaign through the Color Of Change PAC.

49-year old Bragg was elected to office 15 months ago during a time that he calls a “big mess,” when there were high crime levels and people pushing for an update on the Trump investigation. He got himself accepted into this job with impressive resumes like being educated from Harvard, being a civil rights lawyer, state attorney general’s deputy and federal prosecutor, but he had no experience in dealing with New York City politics.

When he worked at the state attorney general’s office, he did important things like prosecuting a bad FBI agent and fighting lawsuits against Trump. He grew up in Harlem while crack cocaine was a big problem there and police pointed guns at him three times!

When he became District Attorney, Republicans and some Democrats thought Bragg was too relaxed on crime. He sent a note to his staff outlining how he would or wouldn’t prosecute certain offences. This included not punishing people for little misdemeanors such as not paying for subway rides or possessing marijuana.

Former U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin, a Republican, ran for governor last year and wanted to fire an independently-elected politician named Bragg. People were angry and said some really mean (and sometimes offensive) things about Bragg which caused his friends to worry about his safety. The New York Post even put Bragg on its front page 13 times in one year which included five times in the first month with very unkind headlines such as “Happy 2022, Criminals!” and “Justice Gone Mad”.

Every morning, reporters would often ask the District Attorney (D.A.), Bragg, questions, but he usually ignored them. While there were more crimes in Manhattan in 2022 than the year before, there were less murders and shootings. Inside of the D.A’s office, though, people weren’t happy with what was happening with a case involving Trump – these complaints were written about in a book by an ex-prosecutor named Mark Pomerantz last month.

In 2021, one of the district attorneys who preceded Bragg, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., was allowed by two top deputies (Pomerantz and Dunne) to take Trump to court for claiming his own assets were worth more than they actually were in certain financial statements he had provided to lenders. The final decision if charges should be pressed or not was left to Bragg when Vance retired from office.

Eventually, it was decided that charging Trump would be put off as special prosecutor Pomerantz wasn’t sure they had enough evidence – Bragg explained this further with the statement “Pomerantz’s plane wasn’t ready for takeoff.”

Pomerantz and Dunne decided to leave their jobs because they were taking too long to do something. People began to think that Bragg had stopped working hard on the legal case against President Trump. However, last April when asked about it, Bragg said no he was still investigating the situation fully and would not be scared or show any special treatment.
