The race initially commenced on Saturday but was halted after only 25 laps following a lightning strike in the vicinity. Although NASCAR had intended to recommence the race on Sunday morning, the plan was abandoned due to the persistent rain and the impending Cup Series race. In an official statement, NASCAR expressed, “With the race track and much of the city grappling with standing water and flooding, resuming racing before transitioning to the NASCAR Cup Series race operations was unfeasible.” NASCAR dismissed the possibility of rescheduling to Monday, justifying the decision based on their collaboration with the city and the completion of nearly half of the Xfinity race. In addition, NASCAR had to call off performances by Miranda Lambert and Charley Crockett due to the Lower Hutchinson Field being inundated. The first-ever Cup Series race on a street course is scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m. Before Saturday’s weather-induced delay, Custer led all 25 laps in his No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford. He was followed by John Hunter Nemechek, Justin Allgaier, Brett Moffitt, and Austin Hill. The race was originally slated to run for 55 laps and cover 121 miles (194 km). “Today, we sincerely wished to complete all the laps… We aren’t thrilled about winning in this manner,” Custer remarked. “Nevertheless, we possess a speedy car. I believe that’s clear to everyone.” Custer secured his second Xfinity Series triumph this season and the 12th of his career. His previous victory was on the road course at Portland International Raceway on June 3. “This is undeniably one of the most unconventional wins I’ve been part of, without a doubt,” he confessed. “But we’ll accept it. After all, we’re racers and we take what comes our way. So, we’re proud of it.” You can follow Jay Cohen on Twitter at https://twitter.com/jcohenap For AP auto racing news, visit: https://bigbignews.net/auto-racing and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Table of Contents Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Cole Custer NASCAR Xfinity Series WinWho was declared the winner of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race due to the rain washout? Why was the NASCAR Xfinity Series race cancelled? What was Cole Custer’s reaction to winning the race in this way?How many laps were completed before the race was suspended? Was there a plan to resume the race?Did the rain affect other events in the city?More about Cole Custer NASCAR Xfinity Series Win Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Cole Custer NASCAR Xfinity Series Win Who was declared the winner of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race due to the rain washout?
