Child Accidentally Discharges Mother’s Firearm in Walmart, Leading to Charges

Authorities have reported that a child endangerment charge has been filed against a mother after her young child inadvertently discharged her gun inside a Walmart in southern Ohio. The incident occurred last week, according to the police.

Officials from the Waverly Police Department disclosed that the incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday. The mother informed the responding officers that her 2-year-old son had accessed her Taurus 9mm handgun from her purse, resulting in its accidental discharge.

The fired bullet struck the store’s ceiling, and the toddler sustained a minor forehead injury, believed to be caused by the gun’s magazine during the incident.

The identity of the mother has not been made public, but she was apprehended and charged with child endangerment in Pike County Court. Following the incident, the child was entrusted to a guardian’s care and was subsequently taken to an urgent care facility for evaluation, as stated by the police.
