Bronny James Suffers Cardiac Arrest Due to Inherited Heart Condition, Family Representative Announces

During a basketball training session last month at the University of Southern California, Bronny James experienced cardiac arrest as a result of an underlying congenital heart defect, as revealed by a spokesperson for the family.

LeBron James Jr., the 18-year-old progeny of NBA luminary LeBron James, was afflicted on July 24. Following the episode, he received medical care at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Subsequent consultations were held with physicians at the Mayo Clinic and Atlantic Health-Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey.

Stephanie Rosa, a representative from the LeBron James Family Foundation, issued an official statement on Friday elucidating that the likely cause of the younger James’ unexpected cardiac event has been pinpointed.

“The defect is both anatomically and functionally significant and is amenable to medical treatment. We have strong confidence in Bronny’s complete recovery and anticipate his return to basketball in the imminent future,” the statement read.

LeBron James Jr. was discharged from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center three days post the incident, which occurred at USC’s Galen Center. The subsequent evening, he was spotted dining with his family in Santa Monica.

Bronny James, standing at 6-foot-3, had committed to the University of Southern California in May, following his emergence as one of the country’s premier basketball prospects from Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth. He did not accompany the USC Trojans on their recent European excursion.

It is noteworthy that Bronny James is the second high-profile basketball recruit for USC to experience cardiac arrest within the past year. Vincent Iwuchukwu also faced a similar medical emergency during a workout session last July. The 7-foot-1 center made his return to the court six months later and participated in 14 games for the Trojans during his freshman year.
