BET Awards return Sunday night, celebrating 50 years of hip-hop

The much-anticipated BET Awards are making a comeback on Sunday night, promising an unforgettable show that commemorates 50 years of hip-hop.

Taking place at the prestigious Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, this event will showcase a tribute to the most significant moments in hip-hop history, carefully curated by Kid Capri. Additionally, the legendary Patti Labelle will pay homage to the late Tina Turner.

Starting at 8 p.m. EDT, the show will be broadcasted on various platforms, including BET, BET HER, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, and livestreamed on BET.com.

Leading the nominations with an impressive seven nods is Drake. He is in the running for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, and multiple shared categories, including Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice with Future and Tems for their song “Wait for U.” Furthermore, Drake is also up for Album of the Year and Best Group for his collaboration with 21 Savage on “Her Loss,” as well as Viewer’s Choice for their hit track “Jimmy Cooks.”

Lizzo and 21 Savage share the second spot with five nominations each.

Receiving the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award this year is none other than Busta Rhymes, following in the footsteps of last year’s recipient, Sean “Diddy” Combs. With twelve Grammy Award nominations to his name, Busta Rhymes is an influential rapper, producer, and trailblazing figure in hip-hop. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest MCs, boasting an impressive seven Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits.

A lineup of talented artists including Bia, Coi Leray, Cutty Ranks, Dexta Daps, M.O.P., Rah Digga, ScarLip, Spice, Supercat, and Swizz Beatz will come together to pay homage to Busta Rhymes during the ceremony.
