Alicia Navarro, Arizona Teen Missing for Nearly Four Years, Found Safe in Montana

Alicia Navarro, an 18-year-old from Glendale, Arizona, who went missing almost four years ago, has been found safe in Montana. She reappeared at a police station located approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) from the Canadian border in a small Montana town, according to the Glendale police.

Navarro’s mysterious disappearance had prompted a large-scale search involving the FBI and generating thousands of tips over the years, authorities reported.

Jessica Nunez, Navarro’s mother, had previously expressed concern that her daughter, diagnosed as high-functioning on the autism spectrum, may have been led away by someone she encountered online.

The specific Montana town where Navarro surfaced was not immediately identified. Montana is over 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) away from Arizona.

“She is by all measures safe, healthy, and happy,” affirmed police spokesperson Jose Santiago during a press conference.

Investigators are currently working to unravel the circumstances surrounding Navarro’s disappearance when she was 14, on September 15, 2019.

Navarro reassured police that she hadn’t suffered any harm during her time away, and she isn’t facing any criminal charges. She wasn’t being detained and was free to move as she wished.

“She is not in any sort of trouble,” Santiago added.

At the time of her disappearance, Navarro had left a note at her home saying, “I ran away. I will be back, I swear. I’m sorry.”

According to Lt. Scott Waite, Navarro experienced an “emotionally intense” reunion with her mother and was “deeply apologetic for the distress she caused her mother.”

Nunez confirmed that her daughter had been found, but stated she had no further details.

“I want to give glory to God for answering prayers and for this miracle,” Nunez wrote in a Facebook post. She also encouraged others with missing loved ones to take hope from her daughter’s case, saying, “Miracles do exist. Never lose hope and always fight.”
