The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, a group connected to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party, said the dead men were their members. This event is part of a year-long pattern of violence in that region. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that three men were shot and killed by Israeli forces near the city of Nablus. Their names were Jihad Mohammed al-Shami (24 years old), Uday Othman al-Shami (22 years old) and Mohammed Raed Dabeek (18 years old). Furthermore, after a gunfight, the military grabbed 3 M16 rifles and arrested one gunman who surrendered himself. This year, 80 Palestinians have died and 14 Israelis have been killed in attacks. In order to stop this violence, the Israeli government has increased their raids on the West Bank. Last week, the Israeli military raided a village in the West Bank called Jaba and killed three Palestinian militants. After that, a gunman from Palestine shot people on a street in Tel Aviv which caused three people to be injured before being killed himself. Recently, the fighting between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank is one of the most severe conflicts they’ve experienced in many years. It started last spring due to Palestinian attacks on Israelis which consequently caused almost nightly Israeli raids in the West Bank. In 2022, a lot of people were killed in the West Bank and east Jerusalem. B’Tselem, an Israeli rights group, said it was the deadliest year since 2004. 30 Israelis died because of attacks from Palestinians. The military says most of the Palestinians that were killed were fighters who attacked them back. However, there were also kids throwing stones during protests or other people not fighting that got hurt too. Israel says that it needs to do raids to help stop attacks. But the number of attacks have been increasing recently. The Palestinians think that Israel’s raids mean that they won’t get their own country. This is because Israel captured land like the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem when they had a war in 1967. The Palestinians still want these lands for their independent nation.
