3 found dead and 3 injured in related violence in English city of Nottingham, police say

Three individuals were discovered deceased and three others sustained injuries in a series of violent incidents in the city of Nottingham, as confirmed by the local police. Following these events, a man was apprehended on suspicion of murder.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell described the incident as horrific and tragic, claiming the lives of three individuals. The first two victims were found dead on one street shortly after 4 a.m., while the third victim was discovered on a different street. The three individuals injured by a van were located at a separate site and were currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The condition of the injured individuals was not immediately known.

According to a witness named Lynn Haggitt, a white van pulled up beside her at around 5:30 a.m. She observed the driver checking his mirror and noticing a police car slowly approaching from behind without its lights activated. Subsequently, the van collided with a man and a woman at a street corner.

Haggitt stated, “He went straight into them, he didn’t even bother to turn, just went back straight into them. The lady ended up on the curb, and then he backed up the white van and he went, speeded up Parliament Street with the police cars following him.” The man appeared to have sustained a head injury but was assisted to his feet, while the woman was sitting on the curb and seemed to be unharmed.

The motive behind the incidents was not immediately apparent, and the local police, rather than counterterrorism officers, were leading the investigation. Chief Constable Meynell affirmed that the three incidents were interconnected and that a suspect was in custody. A team of detectives was actively working to determine the exact sequence of events in the early stages of the investigation.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed shock at the incident and urged the public to allow the police ample time to conduct their investigation. He extended his condolences to the injured individuals and the families of those who lost their lives.

Social media images depicted police officers, some armed with rifles, positioned near cordons at various locations within the city center. As a result, all services of the city’s tram network were temporarily suspended.
